Advocacy Stories

I have a supported decision making team. It’s been important for me that people who support me understand how I best learn, communicate and process information in order to support me.

This is is a spotlight on visual communication.

My SDM team helped me a lot by encouraging me to work on my reading comprehension skills.

Lisa from my supported decision making team helped me to recognize my potential and really work to pursue goals around this.

In the last year I did a program called Adult Literacy Ohio. That’s how I discovered I am a visual processor and that by combining art and drawing with listening to stories I could understand what was being read to me or I listened to a book.

I learned more stuff around language and spell I also was reading phonetically and wanted to improve my reading.

Because of supported decision making I had an opportunity to work on some goals to improve my reading and it helped me to create communication tools and also learn real skills to improve my overall life and change outcomes.
